MESS Scale for Combat Limb Injury: Amputation or Salvage?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Summary. Combat injury of the limbs is characterized by multilevel open combined tissue damages, severity which in some cases makes it impossible salvage tactics.
Objective: based on analysis literature, to investigate possibility using MESS (the mangled extremity score - assessment a broken limb) when establishing indications for early amputation severely injured limb due combat trauma.
Materials and Methods. A literature search was conducted PubMed database according established criteria. Data were taken from selected sources: number amputation/save weighted average value. with 95% confidence interval (CI) coefficient variation calculated.
Results. total 189 sources criteria identified period 1990-2021, applied; 7 analysis. The generalizing value (weighted average) amputations 7.3; CI (6.27-8.33); 4.1. While preserving limb, calculations showed 4.9; (4.49-5.31); 8.4.
Conclusions. use possible assess condition limb; or above reliable predictor amputation.

متن کاملLATE ARTERIAL REPAIR FOR LOWER LIMB OR KNEE SALVAGE
The objective of this report is to prove that even after development of ischemic necrosis of the muscles and nerves, we can still save the extremity or the knee and even several days after arterial injury, perform arterial repair and other mentioned procedures. Thus we can retain a functionally satisfactory leg or knee joint, which is far better than classic above-knee amputation and utili...
متن کاملLATE EMBOLECTOMY FOR LIMB OR KNEE SALVAGE IN ACUTE LOWER LIMB ISCHEMIA: A NEW PROTOCOL
Embolectomy has long been the gold standard for treating limbs acutely threatened by arterial occlusion. Delayed embolectomy has not been investigated adequately due to the belief that accompanying mortality and morbidity render the case futile. Following our previous experience with late arterial repair for leg or knee salvage I we applied the same principle to limbs threatened with prolo...

PURPOSE Leg threatening injuries present patients and clinicians with a difficult decision: whether to pursue primary amputation or limb salvage? The purpose of our study was to review the literature in an effort to inform this management decision. METHODS We systematically searched and selected observational studies that reported on individuals presenting with leg threatening injuries compar...
متن کاملlimb salvage treatment vs. amputation in sarcoma
